Genetically Mortified?

What would be the technological catalysts that could trigger the Second Green revolution? Many scientists, analysts and spin doctors are betting on Genetically Modified (GM) crops to do the trick. So sustained and heavy duty is the propaganda surrounding GM food that a majority of otherwise sceptical media analysts seem to have swallowed the bait hook, line and sinker. No doubt, the technology holds enormous promise and potential. No doubt, it has been demonstrated in countries like the US that farm productivity levels increase phenomenally when GM crop seeds are utilised to grow wheat, maize, brinjal and a variety of other food grains, fruits & vegetables. Yet, the sobering reality is that GM food can also turn out to be a malignant Frankenstein’s Monster that can destroy agriculture in virtually the entire Third World, including India.
